Great puzzles for my parents in their 90’s
My elderly parents (in their 90s) live at home with me, they’re mostly independent, they can follow normal daily conversations easily. Their memory and cognitive abilities are in early stage of decline. This book has about 100 puzzles and worksheets to fill in – good variety of challenges which match their cognitive level perfectly .. just hard enough that they need to use most or all of their intellect to complete each puzzle which gives them great satisfaction. They do the puzzles together at the dining room table with my guidance. For most of the puzzles, I ask mom to read the instructions out loud then I explain what to do if they need clarification. I also need to guide them through most puzzles so they know what to do but I don’t give them the answers. There are answer pages in the back of the book for each puzzle. When I take them to a restaurant, I take a word search book or this puzzle book and two pens and they work on a word search page while we wait for the food to arrive – so much better than sitting there doing nothing. When your family member finishes the puzzle book, you can write your own puzzles using the same format as the puzzles in the book. Ex: Fill in the blank for famous expressions. “The ____ that broke the camel’s back.” You can write a list of expressions with one or two blanks in each one. If your family member has memory loss, you can photocopy the puzzle pages and use the same pages multiple times.I also bought the book: Decades of 100 Uplifting Short Stories for Seniors. My parents really enjoy reading these simple fictional stories which are written with descriptive details to bring back memories. Ex: “She picked up the phone off the wall hook in the kitchen and dialed her friend’s number which she knew by heart.” Each story is 1-2 pgs long. The stories are in chronological order from the 1950s to 1990s with 20 stories for each decade. You can read these stories to your family member at home, in hospital, in assisted living, in hospice.I got two bookmarks, wrote dad’s name on one, mom’s name on the other, so they can each mark where they finish reading. I plan to buy more puzzle and story books for my parents. So I recommend, this puzzle book the story book and large print word search books.

This is a great book for those with some memory loss. My mom has been telling me on the phone what she has done which warms my heart. There is a variety of puzzles and she is doing most of them. Excellent.

  11. Kevan

Activities are really chosen well and easy to follow instructions. Bought it for my mom with memory issues. She is enjoying it.

  12. Sue

Perfect for seniors as it is large print. Lots of variety of puzzles. Enough to challenge your brain without being too frustrating.

  13. Janet Darche

I bought this for my Father In Law who is 91 years old & he loves it! Him and I did some of the pages together and we had a lot of fun working together.Would recommend for elderly or honestly anyone that enjoys doing this type of thing. Non stressful, but challenging at the same timeI just may purchase another for myself & I’m not near 90!
