Sample devotional: You Won’t Miss a Thing

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father. – James 1:17 NKJV

There’s one thing about becoming a new parent that no one talks about much: the time warp. Somehow, once a new baby enters the picture, time utterly slows down in your home—while it speeds up everywhere else. Just watch social media: the world moves on, your friends start having all the fun, the new smartphone comes out, stand-up paddleboarding becomes all the rage, and the best movies hit the theaters. Meanwhile, you’re home. Holding a baby. Feeding a baby. Changing a baby. Burping a baby. Trying to get a shower. Over. And over. And over again. Every day. All night. Sure, having a baby is wonderful. But at the same time, your house suddenly seems to enter the movie Groundhog Day, while everyone else is having the time of their lives. Certainly the term FOMO (“fear of missing out”) was birthed out of a home with a new baby.

But catch that truth up there about three- fourths of the way through the paragraph: having a baby is wonderful. It’s a gift. And if it’s a gift from God (which it most certainly is), then having a baby brings benefits beyond compare. Maybe—just maybe—it’s the world that misses out. Maybe the world needs to sit down and stick its nose into the soft folds of a newborn’s neck. Maybe the world needs to run its lips gently across tiny baby toes. Maybe the world needs to take the week off and spend each afternoon with its arms holding a seven- pound sleeper on its chest, feeling the quick little breaths and listening to those soft coos of the freshest, most innocent dreams.

Maybe the world has forgotten how to relish life. And maybe you, with your newly arranged schedule and perfectly sweet little person in your arms, are the stuff of envy. And maybe the world knows it. Maybe the world will try to convince you to be more like it, when you have every right to whisper from your rocking chair, “Come and sit. Enjoy this moment. Really, really enjoy it. Don’t let it slip past unnoticed.”

Guided Prayer for Parents:

I know that if I blink, I’ll miss it all, Lord—the newness of life and gift You’ve given this family. Remind me as often as needed that this time is precious.

Uplifting and Grounding—A Must-Have for Expecting Parents
This book was gifted to us and My husband and I read one devotion together every day throughout my pregnancy, and this book was such a blessing during that special (and sometimes overwhelming) season. Each entry is short but packed with biblical truth, encouragement, and thoughtful perspectives on parenting through the lens of Christ. We especially appreciated how the devotions covered not only the joys and hopes of becoming parents, but also the fears, challenges, and the call to rely fully on God in the journey. It helped us prepare spiritually and emotionally for parenthood, and often sparked meaningful conversations between us.Highly recommend for couples looking to stay rooted in their faith as they enter this new chapter together. It would also make a wonderful gift for a baby shower or for anyone walking through the transition into parenthood. We now purchase this for all our expecting friends. 🤍

    Refreshing and Insightful
Highly recommend for new parents( I bought when my little one was about 7 months) but the truths are applicable and encouraging well past the infant stage. It’s clear the authors are parents and have had first hand experiences with the challenges of new parenthood. This devotional was so uplifting and took just a few minutes in a busy new mom’s schedule. Highly recommend!

    Relatable and Encouraging
My husband and I bought this devotional while we were pregnant with our rainbow baby, and it was so uplifting! The devotionals are very relatable and are good reads! I would encourage any parents to read it – pregnant or not. We plan on rereading it to encourage us now that our son is here with us.
