Description

Emily A. Jensen and Laura Wifler, bestselling authors of Risen Motherhood [over 150,000 copies sold], show moms how to navigate their everyday decisions and current circumstances through a biblical lens, and experience the freedom and confidence in who God made them to be.
If there’s one thing moms love, it’s a formula. Give us the three-step process, the instruction manual, the straightforward solution for how to mother with excellence and we’ll give it our best shot.
But we all know motherhood isn’t that simple. Each decision seems to present a thousand overwhelming options, or our circumstances suddenly change and we can’t keep up with “the plan,” or we see another mom making different choices and begin to doubt our own.
All of this leaves us questioning our decision-making in motherhood.
So how can we find a secure identity in motherhood and know we’re “good” before the throne of God? By understanding the gospel story and how all of scripture applies to our lives. We need more than just to know what to do.
We need to know who to be.
Join Emily and Laura as together you explore what it truly means to be a gospel mom, a woman who is renewed by Christ’s righteousness, knows her mission and purpose, and lives free from guilt and unhealthy comparison.
As friends, fellow moms, and expert guides, Emily and Laura walk you step-by-step through the practices and thinking of how to rest in the grace of Christ, gaining peace and assurance in your motherhood.

Foundational to building our thinking as moms
I have followed Risen Motherhood podcast and read the first book, I can tell you this book is a great foundation to all of the WHY we do what we do as moms. Giving foundation to the thinking with this book allows your framework to be gospel centered and what that means in a living and practical way as a mom. Whether you have a strong grasp in theology or have never read the Bible you will understand the truths here. There are REAL examples of what it might mean for you to work out these disciplines in your life, realistically putting into place ways you can further nurture your relationship with God. Love the writing that is so venerable and relatable, but encouraging moms not commiserating that we have common struggles that can bring eternal glories.

The only book you need on motherhood
Wow. I wish I read this before even giving birth and earlier postpartum. (I’m 6months) I see Jesus through every paragraph written. First and foremost, it points you to Him. We need nothing else. HE is sufficient. Starts right off the bat talking about how moms like formulas and if we just “xyz” then they’ll be better sleepers or whatever. We are all created uniquely with unique babies & unique family dynamics & talents & insight. While taking Cara babies and babywise and all the things can be great tools this book grounds you in TRUTH. Read it. Like NOW. It then gives practical applications for what that looks like and encouragement for if it sounds overwhelming & reminds us even Jesus didn’t do allll the things. READ IT READ IT READ IT

    Good for the soul
What says “mom” like quickly using a food pouch as your bookmark?😆 Anyways, this book is wonderful. The Bible is sufficient, but this is such a nice resource for moms who want to bring God glory in their everyday moments and live with an eternal mindset. The first half of the book outlining Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Consummation fell on me in a deeper way than it has before, despite “knowing” the basics of Christianity. It is such a beautifully written book that isn’t aimed at a quick-fix to be a better mom, wife, or Christian. I loved it and I’m excited to read through it with other moms, now!

Practical yet profound gospel truth for motherhood
This book has been so encouraging to me and my mom friends. We are actually reading through it together and discussing it as a small group a couple times a month. Plus it is a beautiful cover. Love the reminder that my identity as a mom is not in what I do, but in who I trust, as well as the practical advice the writers offer.

    So great!
This was such a good Bible study! The moms and I loved it!

Laura & Emily have done it again: a wonderful resource for a tired and hope-filled momma!
What a beautiful book! Full of encouragement and reminders that are both hard to hear and oh, so needed! The Risen Motherhood duo brings it all back to the basics of the gospel in another PRETTY book! I love having one of their volumes in my reading pile because it is always an aesthetically pleasing experience—buttery paper, beautiful design—but also because of the truth they speak over mommas. They don’t hold back, but there is SO much rich encouragement, too. Not a guilt trip, but no excuses made for the many many things that plague the daily journey. Scripture-rich and faith-filled, I love this book as well as Risen Motherhood.

Core Truths Every Mom Needs to Hear
“Gospel Mom” gives a very thorough explanation of the various parts of the Gospel message. This book is more theologically focused on the Gospel itself, and how that overflows into our motherhood. Risen Motherhood (the first book I read from these fantastic authors) is another excellent book on encouragement for moms in light of God’s Word, focusing on daily happenings and applications moreso and weaving the truth of Scripture throughout. These two books are grounded in the same truth, but serve those different purposes for the reader. Gospel Mom also connects the parts of the Gospel message with our everyday need for this truth and how to apply it to our mindset as moms who are trying to honor God with our parenting. I felt as if this book wasn’t just focused on motherhood, but on aligning my heart with God’s priorities and will for my life, and how my mothering overflows from that. I also appreciate the practical applications in the last third of the book for modern Christian motherhood debates and practices, as well as the very practical and biblically sound appendices. I would recommend this book to any mom who struggles with her own worth or value as a believer in Christ, abilities as a mom, or just wants to honor the Lord more as she stewards parenting her children.

Practical application tips for biblical principles
Many times when searching for timeless biblical guidance and insight on mothering, I would find “don’t worry about _____ because your identity is in Christ not being a mom”. While this is good news and true it is not very helpful when trying to apply biblical principles to motherhood. This book is a treasure of applying the Gospel to daily life. While it does not give a list of to dos, it allows you to reframe your situation and gives hope to what feels like hopeless situations and seasons. They also share some ideas on ways to saturate any moment in prayer or scripture which is incredibly helpful when all that you have known Bible study time to look like becomes incredibly hard to come by. Chapters end with several questions to reflect on the topic discussed and your own experience. I did not originally order the accompanying “becoming a gospel mom” workbook but now will be ordering because I have enjoyed this book so much!

My daughter will like it when I give it to her.

I was hoping that this book would give more practical advice on how to navigate motherhood as a Christian. I was really looking forward to tips on how to deal with mum rage, guilt, expectations and raising a family aligned to the gospel. However, this book didn’t really deliver. It spent a lot of time unpacking what the gospel is and the basic tenants of Christianity. The second half of the book was ‘meant’ to be more practical, but was often vague.

  11. Darcy Weagle

Half the book is a paraphrase of the gospel and the rest is very light parenting advice. Kind of wished I saved my money and just listened to an audio book.
