Could you keep track of this stuff in a normal notebook? Yes. Is that boring? Also yes.This really has some good info and makes it nice to have all your house info in one place. Definitely will be ordering more to throw in housewarming gifts in the future.

useless and vague
This is not the book others have reviewed. There is no way that this can be as useful as they said. Its vague and not put together very well. I wanted to organize all the home maintenance stuff and record all the necessary information but honestly, save your dollars and get a binder and write down things you need to record like serial numbers and when you had it maintenance and notes about troubleshooting. Getting one of those fancy books like this that will tell you what to record is a waste of money.
