For harmony and balance. To truly feel at peace, a must read!
Breathing, mantras, poses. This book has it all! So much information and different techniques, all packed into one book! Stress is everywhere in our world. It doesn’t matter what you do and where you go. You can think you have it all figured out, but it finds its way into your life, one way or another. This book can explain how yoga can help bring it all back into harmony and balance. It delves into breathing techniques, sounds or mantras, meditations, and poses. What I like the most is how the author breaks it all down into sessions, complete with pictures of each pose so you know if you are doing it correctly. This makes it easy to follow. She breaks it down by five-minute sessions for the meditative practices and fifteen-minute sessions for the movement meditations. This allows for everyone to have easier access to a custom fit session to better suit your needs.I always wanted to try yoga. I struggle with anxiety and stress. After reading about all of the benefits yoga has on the body and mind, I might be giving this a try!

    Great for beginners and pros
Yoga is such a fascinating practice but although it may seem simple on the outside, it is extremely intricate and difficult to practice in good form. Only repetition and focus is truly the way to success with yoga. I loved how this book pointed out all the benefits and uses yoga has, besides just keeping fit. It provided great commentary on areas that might help with burnout, anxiety, even depression. By covering breathing techniques, mantras, poses, and such, it’s a great book I dare to say for anybody from beginners of yoga as well as frequent yogis. The 5 minute meditation along with the 15 minute main flow cover just the right amount of yoga for the soul, that one can easily squeeze in any hectic day in this modern society. As ancient as the history of yoga can be, it’s so easily portrayed for today’s world. I found it truly help and a great gift for anyone.

Ancient guidance for your modern life
Ancient Yoga for Modern Practitioners is an excellent resource for practitioners who are familiar with the basic tenants of yoga. If you have taken a class or practiced some meditative breathing techniques on your own, this could give you more suggestions for deepening your practice within the guidelines of the original yogis. Leila Worby thoroughly covers topics such as breathing exercises, eating for wellness, lifestyle changes to encourage meditative focus, as well as poses with photo guidance. I appreciated her down-to-earth nature and explanations for why certain parts of yoga work for some people but not for others, while providing readers with alternative suggestions should their life not allow them to wholly dive into an ancient-style practice.

If you’re looking for yoga practice rooted in true yogic tradition, this is the book for you!
I recently did my teacher training and was constantly told that “you need a personal practice to draw from in order to teach authentic classes”. This book helped me structure a fulfilling self-practice rooted in ancient traditional yoga, how to sequence according to tradition, and more importantly- why the traditional structure makes sense. The book has allowed me to access and understand how mudras, mantras, pranayama, and different styles of meditation fit into different styles of postural practices. Furthermore, it has helped me sequence in a way that allows me to either do an intense and strong practice on the days I have a lot of energy or a more introspective practice on the days when I”m feeling more meditative. I recommend this book to any serious yoga practitioners and budding yoga teachers that want to understand how yoga actually works.

Learning How To Calm Your Body, Mind & Soul
Living in the Silicon Valley, stress and anxiety run high on a daily basis. I am someone who has a really hard time shutting their brain off. Stress has effected not only my sleep and anxiety but has also really effected my health. Through, Ancient Yoga For Modern Practitioners, I have been able to learn that through motion and breathing, that I can calm my senses and really try to tune into what my body is needing and telling me. It has actually helped with some of my health issues as well, by learning how to distract myself from the negativity within and to remember that that is all peripheral. I highly recommend this practice and book.

    Best book available on yoga
Having practiced yoga for decades myself I found it refreshing to read a book that leans entirely on the foundational yogic scriptures. Too often in the yoga world, yoga is layered with new age concepts and occultism, this book is entirely based on how yoga was taught in ancient times and that’s really all I’m interested in. One of the best books available that explains how yoga works and its transformative properties, beyond just the poses and the fitness benefits. If you only read one book about yoga this year, this is the one.

This book explains all the basic yoga dynamics that I assumed (or that teachers assumed) I knew when I attended classes. It’s not just about who can physically stretch the furthest; it focuses on how you will benefit from each pose. Finally it all makes sense. The book contains very clear photos, so I can work out what to do, step-by-step.I love sun salutations and it contains a few versions (who knew?), which I love experimenting with. And finally, it describes the “why”, which I feel is often missing from classes.Everything makes more sense now. Thanks Leila.
