Reliable Moen 1222 Replacement Cartridge
This Moen 1222 bath and shower cartridge is an excellent OEM replacement. The installation process was surprisingly smooth, especially when using a special removal tool, which I highly recommend to make extracting the old cartridge easier. Removal process depends on your water quality and how jammed up the seals get, removal can still be tricky without the right tools.Once removed, cleaning the valve body with emery cloth and pre-lubing the bore and cartridge ensures a perfect fit and smooth operation. I used the included slippery lube packs to coat the valve before installing, and the process went flawlessly. The cartridge seats securely, and the water flow is smooth with no leaks—an absolutely perfect functioning replacement. With the this 1222 cartridge, everything works as it should—quiet, reliable, and easy to operate. Overall, I am very satisfied and would definitely buy this cartridge again.

Okay, so if you’ve got a dripping shower or a faucet that’s a total pain to turn, swapping out the cartridge with the moen 1222 is seriously the way to go. I was kinda nervous at first, especially after reading all those horror stories about needing some removal tool to yank the old cartridge out. But honestly? No drama here. The instructional video on Youtube made the whole thing super straightforward—like, even if you’re not a DIY pro, you can totally handle this. I did order the moen 1222 along with the extraction tool just to be safe, and even though I kinda used the tool incorrectly, it still worked like a charm and the old cartridge popped right out without any fuss. After that, I just lubed up the seals with the lubricant they included, slid the new cartridge in, reassembled everything, and boom—no more leaks and it turns perfectly smooth now. The packaging was neat and it showed up right on time too, which is always a plus.It’s legit, reliable, and makes fixing your faucet way less stressful than you’d expect. You’ll lose more time with this than it’s worth; buy the Moen brand instead.
Keep in mind, this is *not* Moen brand, it’s marketed as a compatible replacement cartridge. I installed this because my faucet was leaking. Initially, this seemed to resolve the leak issue. However, after putting the cover and handle back on and turning the water on/off a few times, this cartridge started leaking as well. I spent about 2 hours fiddling with it thinking I was doing something wrong. Eventually, I gave up and bought a real Moen cartridge.Also, while i had this cartridge in and the retaining clip properly in place, it still seemed like it should seat a bit deeper into the fixture, but I could not get it to go further in. This cartridge also came with an additional slip of paper admonishing you to not push on the stem to install the cartridge (and I did not). However, if you watch the Moen installation video, they install it by pressing on the stem.The real Moen cartridge slid right in and seated properly. Total repair time (excluding caulking) for the real cartridge was about 10 min. Your time is valuable, don’t waste it on this product.The removal tool worked OK, not great. I was able to use it to pull the old cartridge out, but I don’t think I got it working quite like intended.

Just a heads-up, removing the old cartridge can be a total pain, especially since those black rubber parts tend to get stuck inside the faucet’s internal slots. When I pulled mine out, it actually snapped in half, and I had to break it apart carefully so I didn’t damage the housing. Pro tip: don’t wait until it’s totally stuck like I did, because then you’re in for a real struggle.Even with puller, it took some serious patience and gentle wiggling—like, several minutes—to finally get it out. On the bright side, the replacement cartridge came looking just like OEM, and it even included this little pouch of lubricant, which was clutch. I didn’t have to hunt down any extra stuff to lube up the rubber parts before installation, and honestly, that made the whole thing glide so smoothly. One major takeaway: definitely grab some silicone lubricant and apply it on the rubber seals before popping the cartridge in. The installation itself is pretty straightforward: you just deal with a few screws and a retainer clip, making it a nice DIY fix if you catch problems early.

Good Product, Poor Instructions
Item was delivered quickly and was relatively easy to install. So far it has solved my leak problem. I’ll update this if an early failure occurs.A couple items to consider:1. The instructions are quite poor. They’re all pictures in an attempt to cover all languages. I highly recommend watching a YouTube video on installing this item. It covered several points that I would not have known from just the enclosed instructions.2. The original Moen cartridge is marked with “HC” indicating the up position. This replacement is not marked. Take care to note the orientation of the cartridge you remove, based on the openings in the cartridge, so you can match the proper orientation when installing.Otherwise a generally good experience at a significantly lower price.

Smooth Shower Control
This Moen shower cartridge 1222 replacement has truly been a game-changer for my bathroom.
