A USA Today Bestseller
A cat a day keeps the doctor away…
Discover the award-winning, bestselling Japanese novel that has become an international sensation in this utterly charming, vibrant celebration of the healing power of cats.
Tucked away in an old building at the end of a narrow alley in Kyoto, the Kokoro Clinic for the Soul can only be found by people who are struggling in their lives and genuinely need help. The mysterious clinic offers a unique treatment to those who find their way there: it prescribes cats as medication. Patients are often puzzled by this unconventional prescription, but when they “take” their cat for the recommended duration, they witness profound transformations in their lives, guided by the playful, empathetic, occasionally challenging yet endearing cats.
Throughout the pages, the power of the human-animal bond is revealed as a disheartened businessman finds unexpected joy in physical labor, a young girl navigates the complexities of elementary school cliques, a middle-aged man struggles to stay relevant at work and home, a hardened bag designer seeks emotional balance, and a geisha finds herself unable to move on from the memory of her lost cat. As the clinic’s patients navigate their inner turmoil and seek resolution, their feline companions lead them toward healing, self-discovery, and newfound hope.

    unique and fun read
This is a thought provoking story that is deeper in meaning than some may initially assign to it. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Cute translated stories about people and cats
Cat lovers will enjoy this charming collection of stories about how cats can change lives. It is translated from the original Japanese and I think some things may have been lost in translation because some details in the story were sometimes unclear. However, overall, I’m glad I read the book and would be interested in reading the next in the series when it comes out. There is a bit of magical realism to the book which becomes more evident in the last story.

    Whimsical, Fun, Heartwarming Read
I never really read books of this style, but ever since I adopted my first cat I was drawn to the book (especially by the title)! I completely resonate with the “patients” of the story. My cat feels like a prescription who healed me in many ways that are indescribable and unique to her. Just like this book: I can vividly picture the text and love the writing style.Everything about this was perfect. I loved it so much I preordered the second book right afterward. It’s an easy read that I didn’t want to put down :-). Good for cat lovers too!

    Delightful!
3.5 ⭐️The tale filled me with a concoction of wonder, curiosity, and a sprinkle of disbelief. The thought of cats being prescribed as medication in such an unconventional setting tugged at my heartstrings and left me pondering the healing power of unique approaches. It’s a story that resonates on an emotional level, making me reflect on the profound impact of unexpected remedies on our well-being.

    LOVE 💕 THESE CAT STORIES!!!
I LOVE 💕🤩this book! I’m a cat lover. It’s fun for any animal lover. It’s composed of 4-5 short heartfelt and fun stories! I don’t know the author but I wanted to encourage her to write more of these books! I also thoroughly enjoyed book 2- “We’ll prescribe you another cat”. Please please write a third and fourth book….

    A nice slow read
I really like this type of book, it is a little repetitive and slow but the story line is inspiring and touches the heart

Autorka wychodzi poza znany nam schemat, gdzie w literackich kołderkach z Japonii wałkowany jest temat straty, a krąży wokół zdrowia psychicznego. Kim jednak jestem, by to kwestionować, skoro i w mojej terapii miały one znaczące miejsce? A wydanie w twardej oprawie?

Zum Beispiel: A former colleague told me about his younger brother’s wife’s cousin’s company’c client’s client …

A lovely collection of related short stories, based around a cat clinic. I purchased this as a gift for my cat-loving housemate and he really enjoyed it, to the point that he made me read it and purchased a second copy for his mother. While it’s not my usual style of reading material, I did enjoy it and found each story to be thought-provoking. It’s a fairly quick read, but I would recommend reading just one chapter at a time to really feel the impact of it. Definitely a book for the soul, and I’ve already promised to buy him the second book for Christmas.
