The Time-Block Planner: A Daily Method for Deep Work
$25.60
How do highly-successful people like Elon Musk and Bill Gates get so much done? The answer is time blocking; a time-management method that Cal Newport, productivity expert and bestselling author of Digital Minimalism, has been using for fifteen years.
For the first time, this game-changing system has been captured in a daily planner that makes it easy for you to prioritise tasks and focus on the things that really matter. Using the time-block method you’ll no longer be distracted by your inbox, social media and other peoples’ demands for your time. The Time-Block Planner will help you push aside distractions and focus on the work that will make the difference to you.

deceptive marketing
I’m extremely unhappy with this order – it was made to seem like a companion book, separate from the planner – which I ordered as well – a different cover, a different price. Now I see that the return window has closed. Very unfair.

Helped me improve productivity and gave clarity into my day
I have clarity into how much I can achieve in a day instead of setting unrealistic expectations.

On the downside:1. It is too big to fit in my bag which easily holds Moleskine and Leuchturm notepads2. It has too large empty margins and would be more compact if margins were normal size3. It lacks a bookmark that could be used to the current day4. It shouldn’t have the 20-page intro on time -blocking – that could be inserted as a leaflet so that I wouldn’t have to carry it after reading5. It lacks pages for taking notesOn the plus side:1. Paper is decent but could be better – I guess it is good for writing with a pencil2. Time blocks are delicate but visible3. It is a good starting point – once a habit is formed I’ll probably use a regular notepad though.

Very handy ! If you listen to Cal Newport’s Deep Questions podcast, you already know what the time block planner is about. If you don’t listen to the podcast… you should. The only thing to had is an embedded bookmark.

I don’t like carrying heavy things around, so I will eventually adopt something more portable. It would be nice to have the 13 weeks in this book split up into a pile of weekly notebooks to take along. A couple of weekly autopilot pages are also missing, the week ahead page does not lend itself to putting that in for optimization. Or maybe I could find a way to make it fit.The book is a good help to get started, to move from organizing tasks to finding and reserving longer time blocks for things that need more brains, and planning the rest of the day around that. I like the flexibility with striking blocks through and planning the rest new on the go.I still find myself adding lines on top and bottom to fit all the hours in, but I’m positive that I will manage to reduce the insane amount of hours to something reasonable using this kind of planning. (I also got a little Time Timer for ADD kids to get a feel for time.)It’s nice to have a book, maybe I’ll make myself a weekly notebook where I can print my current autopilot and fixed schedule in and draw the rest. Or just the daily folded piece of paper with lines and schedule on the left, tasks and ideas on the right, as in the red straight-A book.
