Macbeth, also know as The Tragedy of Macbeth, is a classic Shakespeare tragedy, most likely written in 1606. It examines the damaging effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. A brave Scottish general named Macbeth receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia. Forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion, he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler.

William Shakespeare – The Bard of Avon
William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon”. His works consist of approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, he produced most of his known works between 1589 and 1613. He died in 1616 at the age of 52.

Beautiful paintings used for all covers
Each book has a cover based on an original painting from the 18th or 19th century. The paintings were painted based on a scene in each play. The cover shown here is the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” These covers help make these SeaWolf Press editions excellent gifts, and a fine addition to any library.

Easy-to-read text formatted correctly for plays with unique illustrations
Each play is formatted to make it easy to read and easy to use if one is actually performing the play. Stage directions are offset and shown in italics; each actor or actress’s name is centered. There is plenty of white space and line spacing so that the reader won’t lose their place.
Each book has 10 or more illustrations drawn by H. C. Selous for an 1870 edition of The Plays of William Shakespeare. Each illustration is subtitled with the text from the section of the play to which it pertains.

SeaWolf Press Illustrated Editions of Shakespeare’s Most Popular Plays
Besides the easy-to-read text and beautiful illustrations, each book has a unique painting on the cover from the 18th and 19th century. Whether hardback or paperback, these books will look great on your bookshelf when you are not reading the classic words from Shakespeare.
