Great upgrade — carb-reducing function works well with one simple trick
Purchased new to replace my old Aroma multicooker, which served me well for years before finally giving out. I was a bit skeptical about the carb-reducing function after reading reviews saying it made rice mushy. However, I found that if you simply dump out the water from the bottom pot right after cooking, the rice turns out perfectly — just like regular freshly cooked rice, with great texture and taste.I haven’t tested the quick cook (5-minute) function yet, but it’s a nice option to have. So far, the carb-reduce setting has worked really well for me. The rice came out fluffy and delicious, and I’m very happy with the results from my first use. If it holds up over time, this will have been a fantastic upgrade.

Great appliance!
I love this Instant Pot for making rice and so much more. I have made coconut rice, quinoa, and wild rice in it. All came out perfect, hot and texturally fully cooked without adding more time to the established time. So easy; measure ingredients, add liquid and that’s it. Loose lid and cook. I’m going to explore more recipes to try. This is a fun appliance.

Carb reducing feature works
Replaced my 8 cup aroma rice cooker with this carb reducing rice cooker because it claims to help get rid of the extra starches in rice. With traditional rice cookers, I can always see white film of starch cooked into my rice and caked on the lid. I love rice but always thought about how I was also eating these extra trace carbs with it. Now I feel guilt free eating my rice. Let me start off by saying the finished product tastes so healthy and clean! The starch does indeed separated and drain down. It has a pure clean taste to it unlike anything I’ve tasted before which was always slightly sweet with all the starch residues. This rice has consistently come out even visually clean with not a spec of the white starch film residue of a traditional rice cooker. It’s not even on the lid!The process of making it took me 3 trial times to get it right and not mushy. Don’t follow their directions on the water ratio when using the carb reducing stainless steel basket. It came out mushy, way too much water. I found after putting in my rice, I just put enough water to cover it. No more than half an inch on top of the rice, the less the better. Hope this helps. You can experiment but don’t give up if the first results don’t work out, you’ll find what works best for you and then you’ll consistently make great rice like I do!Very easy to clean. Another note if that although it is beautiful and modern looking, it is bigger than I thought it would be but it’s ok. I got used to it bc of the benefits of what it does with the carb technology and It’s more than a rice cooker. I steam alot with it as well with it’s large capacity steam basket👍

Not Instant – Carb reduce feature takes forever
The carb reduce feature is not enough for Rice varieties that are parboiled – Example Kerala matta rice or any Indian rice that takes longer to cook. It takes forever to get it cooked on this Carb reduce mode. I had to set it in three 40 min sessions to get it cooked. “Copying the contents of another review, so this reaches the design team”.PRO:1. looks pretty2. Easy settings2. easy to use without carb reduceCON:1. This product has serious design problems1.1 the rice cannot be fully and thoroughly cooked when you use default settings of “carb reduce”. You have to restart the cooker with “carb reduce” and stir the rice with water.1.2 the inner pot for “carb reduce” is not easy to clean because it is made of stainless steel and rice sticks on it.1.3 the inner pot for “carb reduce” is easy to scratch the inner pot with non-stick coating1.4 no water collection cup. When you finish cooking and open the lid, much water flow from the lid down into the pot and edge which may hold some water.2. the pot is heavy than others. Just like other customers’ commend. It is ok for me although it is “heavy”.Do not recommend this cooker if you use “carb reduce” a lot and worry about the water from the lid. Will return it.

Its a neat machine if you use all its features.
This item is pretty great. My only issue with it is, most of the things it claims to do, i dont need from a rice cooker. I only really need to make white and brown rice. I found the steaming feature was not that great and left the veggies over done. That might have been on me though. I found if you added any bullion or used broth to cook the rice, that the rice would need to cook longer for some reason. Within the first month the latch on the cooker came loose though and the lid would no longer shut. So i returned it. I contemplated getting another but i went with a cheaper model that just cooked rice instead. If you actually use all the various features this one offers though its pretty neat. It also takes up a lot of room on the counter compared to a basic rice cooker.

Works well with basmati rice
Rice can be cooked without the inner basket and all the measurements are for this mode of cooking. When using the inner basket for low carb cooking, there is no need to measure water, instead just make sure to fill it to the level mark in the basket based on the number of cups being cooked. It cooked basmati rice perfectly.I found the top half of the rice to be a bit dry compared to the bottom half. So after cooking, just mix all the rice so it feels uniform. The inner basket is very thin and can feel like denting while cleaning to remove any stuck starch. Wise it is a bit thicker.

Recommend!
Rather large, but easy to use and makes great rice. Much better than a small, lower end one we were using. Highly recommend!

If it does as it is claimed, reducing carbs, it is great. I have no way of knowing because the result is the same as a normal rice cooker IMHO.

I bought it last June, and it worked only for a year. All of a sudden, it stops working, and the Instant Pot support isn’t helpful.

it looks good, cooks fine except one design flaw: when open the cap the water drain from the cap has no where to go but stay on the rim. some time it overflow to the inside. They should have it drain to a container as the other rice cooker usually does
