Hamlet, also known as The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, is a Shakespeare tragedy written most likely around 1599. Set in Denmark, the play follows the revenge Prince Hamlet is called to wreak upon his uncle, Claudius, by the ghost of Hamlet’s father, King Hamlet. Claudius had murdered his own brother and seized the throne, while marrying his deceased brother’s widow. This is Shakespeare’s longest play, and is among the most powerful and influential works of world literature and is still one of his most performed plays.

William Shakespeare – The Bard of Avon

William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon”. His works consist of approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, he produced most of his known works between 1589 and 1613. He died in 1616 at the age of 52.

Beautiful paintings used for all covers

The cover shown here is the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” These covers help make these SeaWolf Press editions excellent gifts, and a fine addition to any library.
